Beeswax Wraps

Hello Blogger!

Today our class learnt how to make Beez wax wraps.

What you will need:

  • 100%  cotton  (fabric)

  • Pinking shears

  • Beeswax pellets

  • Baking paper

  • Iron

  • Old towel

  • Cardboard (optional)

                                   Method

  1. Choose a fabric that is 100% cotton.

  2. Cut the cloth using pinking shears into a square (measuring 30cm by 30cm).

  3. Sprinkle a handful of beeswax pellets onto the fabric. Spread it out evenly. (Tip: Put an old towel down first so if your beeswax drops it will fall on the towel, you can also put cardboard underneath the towel to protect the table -  it's optional.)

  4. Lay down the cloth on parchment paper then put another piece of parchment paper on top of the fabric. Make sure there is parchment paper underneath the cloth.

  5. Iron the top piece of parchment paper, hold it for a bit and then do move it to another section.

  6. Remove the parchment paper from the cloth once the beeswax has  melted.

  7. Peel off the cloth quickly or else it will stick onto the parchment paper .

  8. Hold the cloth on the two sides, and shake it until it cools down.

Now you have a beeswax wrap!

We made Beeswax wraps to reduce the amount of rubbish. We have been learning about rubbish getting into our sea's and ocean's. In my reading group, we saw some videos of birds dieying from the plastic we learnt how much rubbish there was in the great picific garbage patch.

  1. Hey there Mina

I like you patterned bees wax paper. I enjoyed making the cloth with bees wax. Next you should reread your blog post and go through the step to help people understand how you made it.
What was the purpose of making it?
What was the most challenging part about the making process ?
    What would you name it?
    how does it feel?
Does bees get attracted to it? and how?
Maybe next you should add more detail and information about what it is? How it feels? etc.

    Blog ya later
    Bye ;D
